Ao contrário do Floki da TV, interpretado por Gustaf Skarsgård, o explorador escandinavo Floki Vilgerðarson não deve ter confundido a Islândia com o Valhalla, o céu dos nórdicos, e ele não chegou lá de forma aleatória.

Em Vikings, o construtor de barcos, amigo mais íntimo de Ragnar e ‘padrinho’ de Ivar, the Boneless, sai em uma peregrinação náutica pelo mar do norte, sem rumo, deixando seu destino nas mãos dos deuses.

A viagem solitária é a última tentativa de Floki em dar sentido à sua vida, sem a esposa Helga e sem Ragnar. “Este mundo já não me interessa”, ele declara pra um Ivar despedaçado.

Mas o que há de “real” (realidade é apenas uma face do prisma) e o que há de romance na jornada de Floki em The Departed, o episódio de estreia da quinta temporada de Vikings.

1 – Ida à Islândia

Bom, Floki foi mesmo à Islândia, ou melhor, ele foi até a ilha despovoada ao norte da Europa, ao sul a Groelândia.

Floki Vilgerðarson é reconhecido como um dos primeiros exploradores noruegueses a por os pés na Islândia, conforme documentado no Landnáma, um dos poucos registros escritos deixados pelo povo escandinavo medieval.

Ao contrário da TV, ele não foi para lá por acaso, mas deliberadamente. Floki era um explorador e era isso que ele fazia. Agora, se um coração quebrado pela perda da esposa foi a motivação, fica difícil afirmar.

Naddodd foi o viking que se perdeu no mar e chegou à Islândia por desígnio dos deuses, por assim dizer.

2 – Tinha um corvo na viagem

Não dá pra saber se um corvo, um dos símbolos de Odin (o deus rei da mitologia nórdica) estava infernizando a viagem de Floki Vilgerðarson, como mostrado em The Departed. Mas o explorador era conhecido também por um outro nome: Hrafna-Flóki, corvo-Floki.

Esse segundo nome pode ter sido a base da escolha do produtor Michael Hirst em colocar um corvo no barco com Floki.

3 – Ele foi no inverno

Sim, é sabido que Floki passou um inverno, possivelmente pesaroso, na ilha que estava explorando. Mais precisamente em Barðaströnd, parte costeira em que desembarcou.

4 – Ele achou que tinha chegado ao Valhalla

Provavelmente não. O Floki real sabia para one estava indo e foi ele quem deu o nome do lugar. Por chegar no inverno e só ver gelo e terra negra vulcânica ele nomeou a ilha como Snæland – Terra do Gelo – Iceland.

Há uma pequena diferença para com o nome em português, Islândia.

Se ele saiu de lá ou não é debate, fontes dizem que ele morreu na ilha, o que pode explicar a escolha de Hirst em Floki ter visões de deuses em cachoeiras onde a água corre pra cima (além da fome, frio e exaustão).

Já o primeiro assentamento da Islândia foi feito por Ingólfur Arnarson, mas ele não está listado na série do History.

Vikings vai ao ar às quintas no Brasil pelo Fox Premium 2, à 1h da manhã.
